Ardbeg Day 2019

This year the Cape Whisky Club along with our fantastic friends over at RGBC hosted a truly world-class Ardbeg Day. The venue? The fresh-faced Gorgeous George “Gigi” rooftop bar, splashed with an impressive coat of Caribbean paint.

Deep in the heart of an icy Cape Town winter, old friends and newcomers alike arrived to the warming embrace of some smashing welcome cocktails produced by the multi-talented Jody Rahme. A few Ardbeg Old Fashioneds later and the mood was appropriately festive 😉

We were spoiled enough to do the entire core Ardbeg range as the lead up to the big event, with myself hosting a guided tasting through each: Ardbeg 10 (46%), An Oa (46.6%), Uigeadail (54.2%) and Corryvrecken (57.1%).

But of course Ardbeg Drum (46%) was the star of the show – Ardbeg’s first rum-finished special release. As you might imagine, this expression would have needed a fairly delicate hand to ensure those strong competing flavours play nicely together, but I’m glad to say Ardbeg pulled it off with style and ease. Brilliantly blended, with a strong, zesty finish, this is an easy drinking diversion for the Islay obsessed.

Thanks!

Once again, thanks to the chaps over at RGBC, and for the incredible Gorgeous George Hotel for accommodating a boisterous bunch of dramthusiasts to your fine establishment!
